The U.S. Embassy has advised U.S. citizens to reconsider travel to Jamaica due to the high level of crime and medical services.
Violent crimes, such as home invasions, armed robberies, sexual assaults, and homicides, are common in Jamaica. Some occur at resorts and tourist areas.
The U.S. Embassy recommends travelers to exercise increased caution, avoid walking or driving at night, do not resist robbery attempts, and monitor local media.
U.S. citizens in Jamaica should enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and assistance from the U.S. Embassy.
Travelers can check the Travel Advisories for their intended destination on the U.S. Department of State website or the U.S. Embassy in Jamaica website.
